Sylenth is actually pretty trad in it's approach but unfortunately, still 32 bit. They all make amazing sounds but you might get more joy, in a programing context, from some third party synths. I've worked a fair bit with the ES2 but it always frustrates me with it's Sci-Fi interface. Logic has loads of cool sounds but I've always felt the interfaces to be a bit opaque. So understanding what a filter is, what a modulation matrix is and what an LFO is are some basic tools you should be aware of and learn about (if you haven't already).

The trick is in getting to know some basics about synthesis and how to control the sounds in real time or via automation. Some synths, like Sylenth, I find to be waaaay more straightforward than a beast like Zebra.

I discovered a while back that new sounds do in fact (for me) equal new approaches. I have Zebra, Massive and Sylenth and, quite frankly, I bought them because I do use presets. Now it's your job to find out which ones. At least you get a synth that's worth the money and you're sure it can produce great sounds. It's what you do with that synth that will make you stand out. Using a different synth won't make you stand out. And they probably DO sound good, otherwise no one would have started using them in first place.Īnd so, you shouldn't get them because they're overused? Yes, you should get them. Everyone uses them because their sound can be heard in 99% of today's tracks, so they become popular among amateurs as well.

You really think Sylenth and Massive are "overused" because they can be found on torrent sites? That's a consequence, not the reason. I answered to the thread by naming the most commonly used synths in Prog House, but if the answer had been about the best synths you can buy (and by best I mean either more features and/or great sound - and even though "great" is subjective, some synths are just renowned for their great sound) the answer would have been the same. Zebra, for example, is probably one of the most versatile synths there are around. Or, I should say, most producers like something because it's actually good. There ARE things which are better than others, it's not always about what one likes. And then there also is "what everbody uses", like Sylenth and Massive and Albino and Zebra - probably because these are (some of) "the usuals" that can be found on torrent sites (which are rarely mentioned on these fora.).ĭisagree.
